Strikeback Goes Off!
5/10/2006
Newcastle's recent big line up festival was one to be proud of...
There were many challenges leading up to Strikeback for the promoters after the original venue Honeysuckle Warehouses in Newcastle's western end were denied to the crowds and a last minute (2-3 days before the event) announcement was made to move it to the foreshore.
The major downfall was that was an alcohol free zone and couldn't be changed for the day without more notice, so event managers had to set up heaps of security and fences but allow pass outs so all the pubs could make the money, instead of them. This may have contributed to the show losing money despite a great turnout of 2000 - 2500 punters.
The secret band was Afro Moses and they went absolutely sick! They happened to be right next to Lefta Centa's stage near the entrance so it was back to back action, with Lefta coming on immediately after.
Lefta cranked out the latest of their offerings including Changing Lanes and Where i'm Roamin' and Trak 9, accompanied by old favourites, 2 Days (the Weekend) and Tighter Than Most. It was a well mixed and cleanly punched out set. The bouncing and swelling crowd seemed to agree. Check the pics out here
Bliss and Esso followed immediately after Lefta and made a huge impact. TZU brought back the hip hop bounce later too.
We genuinely hope it can happen again next year and come back even stronger. Lefta Centa ended up donating their set to the cause due to the money lost and hope that some other larger acts will too (or at least reduce) to avoid people going broke due to circumstances beyond their control.
Hop on Newcastle!
